• Maisonettes in the Sky

This winning competition design resolved the seemingly competing needs for dense urban housing and large communal open space.Individual "parcels" with private outdoor gardens let the inhabitants create their own cross-ventilated habitats in the sky, lifted above three ground level communal parks. Social amenities for families, children and the elderly along the edges of the green space ease the transition from a chaotic contemporary city into a residential sanctuary.

  • Urban Infill Housing Studies

We embrace the restricted and unusual shapes of Urban Infill projects as triggers to rethink tried-and-true layouts and circulation schemes. Ostensibly limiting factors inspire unusual solutions that help to push the archetype of housing into new realms.

A focus on common outdoor space creates a connection to nature for this housing project in the midsts of an urban enviroment. Lifting the housing above the site provides the inhabitants with their own private park - sheltered from the city by a services buildig along the urban edge. The 14 foot-tall space below the housing band provides parking while serving as an all-weather an extension to the pocket park.

Housing

Our conviction that living places need a balance of interior and exerior space is tangible in all of our projects. The dynamics between privacy and community, shelter and views, participation and retreat are what shapes the volumes and informs the siting, placement of openings, and the urban edge of all our buildings.
